Dave Schultz International Tournament ·
Today is weigh-ins for half of the weight classes, including mine. This tournament is usually stacked with international competition. However, since this is the year after the Olympics the foreign numbers will be down. My weight is fine, I have one more remaining workout prior to weigh-ins.
My dad flies in today. I told Mom that Dad would love this tournament because of the large amount of international teams. So I had to let him down easy last night and tell him not to expect the usual. I also get to rekindle an old flame by getting to hang out with my good friend Mark McKnight who will be competing Saturday in freestyle. The weather is great out here. Today’s high in Colorado Springs is supposedly 64. While Marquette’s high yesterday was about 8. That’s all for now, I’ll keep you posted and pray for my success.

Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 VII, Tournament Results (Sunday, November 30, 2008) ·
I finished up 5th place in the Haparanda Cup. I won my first match in three periods 0-3, 2-2, 1-1, it was a good battle. I rolled my ankle during that match in the last period. It was swollen for the remainder of the tournament. I taped up the ankle and continued to wrestle. I lost to a finalist (a very talented Russian)which gave me a chance to wrestle for the bronze medal. I then lost in the bronze medal match as well. Putting me in the 5th place spot. Falling short of a medal again, which is certainly disappointing. I have written down many things that I have learned throughout this tour. This tour has been very beneficial for my career. We will return to the states on Monday. I will also return training and use the loses as fuel. Chas and Jake my fellow tour comrades won their bronze medal match.
Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 VI, Tournament Prepping(Friday, November 25, 2008) ·
We have only a few days prior to the Haparanda Cup. We are finishing up our training in the next two days. Then we will be flying to Haparanda, Sweden. We are all striving to come home with some hardware this weekend. This morning we walked down to the harbor of the North Sea. We heard if we got down there early enough we could see some fishing boats come in. Well we struck out but it was still a fun walk. On a different note, my younger sister Rachelle or as we know her as Shelly just finished up her soccer career. Shelly and her team Slippery Rock were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Shelly has had a great career. For Slippery Rock Shelly was a four year letter winner and was awarded the Second Team All Conference Team this fall. My next post will be after the tournament.
Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 V, Training and Sightseeing(Friday, November 21, 2008) ·
For the last few days we have been training with a Swedish club here in Goteborg. The practices have all gone well. They are short and intense. I have picked up and written down a couple things I have learned here and plan on adding them to my wrestling and training. In between practices we have had some time to explore Goteborg. Goteborg is the second biggest city in Sweden. It’s very nice and reminds me of a small Manhattan in ways. The North Sea is roughly a half of a mile away from our place of stay. We got to go down to the harbor and check out all of the boats coming in for that day. We plan on doing much more sightseeing this weekend and hope to visit a museum or two. We leave here in one week and fly up to Haparanda, Sweden. There we will be wrestling in the Haparanda Cup prior to our departure on December 1.
Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 IV, Settling down in Sweden (Tuesday, November 18, 2008) ·
We have been in Goteborg, Sweden for approximately 24 hours. This is the first time in Sweden for all three of us. The place where we are staying is right in the downtown part of Goteborg, and is really nice. We will be in Goteborg for the next 10 days to train with a Sweden wrestling club, followed by a tournament in Haparanda, Sweden. We just finished with our first practice which went well. We plan on working hard and also getting some good sightseeing done during this stay. The North Sea is just blocks from our place which will make for some fine pictures.

Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 III, Off to Sweden(Sunday, November 16, 2008) ·
Well ladies and gents we are leaving for Sweden tomorrow, without hardware. Chas and Jake both fell short of winning a medal. The St. Petersburg Championship a low key tournament is not short of any talent. We got to see some really talented wrestlers this weekend. It’s really hard to put this much time, money and effort into these tournaments and come back empty handed. We are anxious to get on the mat in Sweden to redeem ourselves. I will keep you updated with the remainder of the tour. Chas and Jake Minnesota natives are blogging about the tour through this website if you would like to read up on more of the tour go to.
Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008 II, Disappointing Tournament (Friday, November 14, 2008) ·
I wrestled today and went 1-1. I won my first match pretty
easily. Dominating on both the feet and parterre (I was on his arm the whole time). My second match was really close, I pushed the momentum on the feet (I could have pushed harder in the first period, I picked it up in the second and was pressing the attack) but he was a little better than me in parterre turning me both periods and winning the match. He ended up losing in the semis and placing third out of 32. Since he did not make the finals I was not put into the constellation bracket. I felt really good when it came to my matches today. This is my first real tournament competing at 66kgs. I was focused and did not get tired. I was disappointed in my result but it felt good to compete again and I continue to have a hunger to wrestle more. Chas Betts and Jake Deitchler wrestle tomorrow, they probably have about the same amount of guys in their bracket as me. I will be leaving for Sweden on Monday. I will keep the posts coming so keep reading.
Parterre= top and bottom wrestling.
66kgs= 145.5 lbs.
Russia/Sweden - Fall Tour 2008, So far So Good (Thursday, November 13, 2008) ·
We made it to St. Petersburg, Russia. We arrived about three hours ago, I wrestle tomorrow. By the time we got to the weigh-ins, they were over and the head official said I didn’t need to weigh in(Jay Antonelli, the coach that come last year has created a good relationship with the Russian’s here). Everything has gone about as good as it can so far. The weather is warmer and bearable compared to last year. We are staying in the same place but the room is a little bigger and warmer. I wrestle at 10:00 am tomorrow, which is about nine hours from now. I’ll keep you guys updated and let you know how I did.
Hungary- Spring Tour 2008 ·
I have arrived in Hungary safely. For the first time in awhile, I
didn’t have any flight delays. But, we were really close to missing our plane to Amsterdam. The trip was rather smooth, that would probably be because I slept most of the way. Now it’s in the am and I’m still up. The weather is warm, 50’s. Our hotel is a ton nicer than last year, and we will get to watch the wrestling World Cup Thursday and Friday. I weigh in Friday and wrestle Saturday. My weight is pretty good and I’ll keep you all posted.
