Spring 2010 ·
This post is far overdue. I have finally found time and made it a priority.
Back in April, I prepared for the US Open extremely well. I was disciplined with my life, wrestling and diet. However, just because you prepare for greatness does not mean you will always find it. God was not ready for me to make this climb yet. I went 0-2 and found myself in the bleachers far before I expected to be. The results of the tournament struck a blow to me in my preperation and in my career. However, there was no time for me to sit and whine about why I did not succeed. I made the decision to attend the regional tournament in Brockport, NY. The winner of this tournament would qualify for the World Team Trials and I could get back on track. However, again I was humbled by losing my first match. The losing streak I had encountered started way back in the end of 2009, confusion was with me in why I was slumping. After much deliberation and swaying I decided to attend the final regional qualifer in Waterloo, IA. Prior to this tournament I took a few days off to relax and let my body recharge. I had a tough bracket at in Iowa, but it did not matter. I found my swagger again and practically walked through the tournament. I was back on track and had qualified for the World Team Trials. I was relieved and could not be more thankful. Two weeks later, I found another chance to reach one of my goals for the year. I was going to try to make the University World Team. After a grueling five match day I had made the team. I beat two teammates to reach the finals and another in the finals to make the team. I finished off the year with another down performance at the Senior World Team Trials by going 0-2. It was a long year with graduating, wrestling and figuring out my future plans.
I will be training for the University World Championships in Colorado this summer while also moving to Boise, ID. In Boise, I will be joining my old coach Ivan Ivanov and some old teammates, where I will continue to reach for my goals and dreams. The Suples Training Center, which I will be apart of, is a unique opportunity where I will be employed by dotcomsecrets. I am excited for this new adventure but at the same time will miss Marquette.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6). That’s all I have for now, you keep me in your prayers and I will keep you updated.
